RIP Bill Harvey - Invitation to celebration (live stream information added)

A live stream of the service will be available from the Cathedral facebook page (no login required). The stream should appear shortly before 2pm UTC/GMT Thursday 10 November.

Many will know that Bill was diagnosed in spring 2021 with cancer of the pancreas. Bill achieved a great deal after his diagnosis: he recorded some presentations, worked on his (now nearly complete) book, went on a cycling holiday in Orkney with family, and cycled 300 miles in two weeks raising £6000 for Cancer Research UK, as well as keeping friends and followers updated on his health and continuing to engage with engineers young and old.

Bill was admitted to hospital with an infection early July, which marked the start of the more difficult phase of illness we had been expecting. He died peacefully in the early hours of Saturday 15 October 2022.

It has been a delight to the family to learn just how many lives Bill’s touched, how well regarded he is, and how many he mentored and supported.

All who knew Bill, whether “in real life” or online, are invited to join us for a celebration of Bill’s life. This will take place on 10 November at 2pm, in Exeter Cathedral, followed by a reception in the Corn Exchange nearby from 3-5pm.

Please RSVP if you intend to come.

Donations in Bill’s memory will be collected for the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust, to support the inspiration of a new generation of engineers, and Hospiscare, who helped us navigate the bewildering world of terminal illness. For donation facility click here.

The last couple of years have been challenging as Bill’s health declined, and it will take a few weeks yet to be able focus on the future, but Bill Harvey Associates Ltd and Obvis Ltd are open for business.
